Privacy Policy
Effective October 24, 2026
This policy explains what the Vantage Hunt app ("the app", "we", "us"), operated by Giuseppe Di Salvatore in British Columbia, Canada, collects, why, where it's kept, and your choices.
1. Data that stays on your phone
These are stored only on your device. We never receive them unless you choose to send them to someone yourself.
- Your location — to show which management unit you're in, what's in season there, closures, wildfire and weather nearby, and distances to camp and pins.
- Trip check-ins — your plan, return time and recorded route. Check-in messages are sent from your own phone's Messages or share sheet to people you pick; they don't pass through us.
- Tracks — routes you record. You can export them as GPX files yourself.
- Forms — such as a Record of Receipt, including names, licence numbers and signatures you enter. PDFs are created on the phone and shared only if you share them.
- Camp location, saved coordinates, settings and your display name.
- Downloaded maps and regulations for offline use.
If you turn on "Always" location, the app records your route in the background only while a trip check-in or a track is running, and stops when you end it.
2. Data we store if you use Party
Party lets a group see each other on the map, share pins and message each other. To make that work, the app creates an anonymous account for your phone — no email, phone number or password. When you create or join a party, we store:
| What | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| A random account ID | To know which party you're in | No one in the app |
| The name you choose, and the party name | So your group knows who's who | Members of your party |
| Your latest position (only while "Share my location" is on) | So your group can find you | Members of your party |
| Pins you drop (camp, truck, stand, harvest, waypoints) | Shared on your party's map | Members of your party |
| Messages you send, and a location if you attach one | Party chat | Members of your party |
| Reports you send about a message or person | To keep Party safe | Us, to review them |
Location sharing sends your current position about every two minutes, or after you move about 75 m, while the app is open and sharing is on. We keep only your latest position, not a history. Turning sharing off clears it.
This data is stored with our database provider, Supabase, on servers in Canada (Montréal region), and is protected so that only members of a party can read that party's data.
3. Services the app contacts
To show maps and live information, the app requests data from these services. Like any internet request, they receive your device's IP address.
- Mapbox (maps) — receives requests for the map area you're viewing or downloading. We've turned off Mapbox's usage and location telemetry in the app.
- Open-Meteo (weather) — receives the coordinates of the spot you're viewing, rounded to about 5 km.
- Government of British Columbia (regulations, BC Wildfire Service data) — no location is sent; the whole-province data is downloaded.
- Apple — the App Store handles downloads. If you've chosen to share crash reports with developers in your iPhone settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash data.
We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
4. How long we keep it
- Party data stays while the party is active. Leaving a party removes your membership and shared position.
- Deleting a message erases its text and location for everyone. Deleting a pin removes it for everyone.
- More → Delete my data permanently deletes your account and everything above from our server — messages, pins, memberships and reports — and clears your personal data from the phone.
- Reports are kept until they've been reviewed and acted on, then deleted.
5. Your choices and rights
- You can use the app without Party, in which case nothing about you is stored on our server.
- You control location permission in iPhone Settings, and location sharing in Party at any time.
- You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@vantagehunt.app. Because accounts are anonymous, include your party name and the name you used so we can find it — or use Delete my data in the app.
We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's PIPEDA. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
6. Children
Vantage Hunt isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Young hunters should use Party with a parent or guardian.
7. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
